Faire!

yo, hippo
Tis the season for Faires you know, and this day was the SLO county Ren Faire! Huzzah! I talked my aunt and cousin into coming with me (more like taking me) out to the Faire grounds and forced my cousin to dress up. I did not force this upon my aunt, however. Elida was suprising reluctant but she's at that age where one doesn't want to feel out of place in any situation. I, however, went full-throttle in a skirt I found in my grandma's closet from India. It was covered in tiny little mirrors and beautiful embrodiery. With this I wore a brown tank-top and a sash (also from India). I looked like a pirate wench/gypsy/something or another. I managed to get Elida to wear my brown skirt and a ribbon across her forehead. Go me.

The Faire was held at a regional park just a little ways from highway one. Although not as shady or as large as Gilory's Casa de Fruita Ren Faire, it was amusing. I think a lot of the same preformers and venders just make the rounds to each one in the state. There were things to buy, things to watch, things to eat and men to oogle at. Demonstrations of blacksmithing, spinning and such, which is always nice. This faire is put on buy a non-profit historical organization, which is good. Lunch was less than authentic with kabob, eggroll and fried rice, but the turkey legs had sold out. I bought a pouch of plastic doubloons and my aunt bought me a medallion that was stamped right then and there by the same machine they used to stamp coins out of way back when. On one side is an elaborate "S" and on the other side is a pirate ship. They use this huge weight to come crashing down upon your stamps to pound the design into the metal. Very cool. Elida got one too.

We missed the joust and probably didn't take in the preformances as much as we should have. I passed up a lot of cool things telling myself that although they were neat, they hardly served a purpose and would spend the rest of their lives shut away in a drawer or collecting dust on a shelf. My pay was admission, food and plastic coins. Would be cool to go to the Gilroy one this year too...
